Medical Travel And You

Medical Travel

For many years now, people have chosen to travel abroad in order to receive the best in available treatment.  Over recent years, the interest in Medical Travel or Medical Tourism as it is more commonly known, has increased significantly with more and more people now considering the option of receiving treatment ‘abroad’.

In the past, people travelled in order to receive treatment from a renowned specialist or to gain access to treatments and procedures unavailable in their own country.

This trend has continued and evolved, with more people now considering Medical Travel as a viable way of avoiding lengthy waiting lists, of gaining access to more affordable procedures and to take advantage of medical options not yet available locally.

The possibility of receiving treatment and undergoing procedures in another country at significantly reduced costs is one of the principle reasons why people decide to go abroad.  Although cost is a very important factor when deciding upon where to receive treatment, we feel it should never be the sole deciding factor.   A patient’s primary aim should be to find a medical specialist and healthcare facility which are able to provide the best possible treatment and care.  Treatment costs should be affordable yet realistic and the cost should never compromise the quality or professionalism of the service provided.

We understand that there are many doctors, hospitals and facilitators who are currently providing services designed specifically for the Medical Tourism industry. The sheer number of options available can make the process of selecting the right doctor and facility a daunting experience.  For this reason we ask patients to research their options thoroughly, to educate themselves on all aspects of the medical travel process and ultiamtely, to be fully confident with their choice of hospital, doctor and destination before confirming treatment.  Furthermore, we ask patients to seek the advice and help of their local treating doctor when and where possible and to talk through options with family members and friends.  Their continued support is important and it will help patients to make choices more confidently.

There may be times when a patient feels they have not received the best advice or support from their local doctor, family or friends and would therefore like to consider alternative treatments or receive a second opinion.  Although we are unable to guarantee candidacy for treatment, cases will be considered and reviewed by specialists and their observations and recommendations with an exact diagnosis will be relayed to patients with the utmost discretion.

We have every confidence in the doctors and hospitals we profile.  Dedicated to adhering to ‘best practice’ standards, only those cases where the best treatment for the patient can be provided will be accepted.  Cases were alternative treatment would best serve the patient although not provided by one of our profiled facilities, will be recommended and when possible advice will be given on the best course of action to take in order to obtain the right treatment.

For some patients, Medical Travel is something to consider for the future and in order to be prepared, they  would like to understand the process in advance as well as the options and facilities available.  We are here to help in any way we can.
