Everyone wants a beautiful smile and now with Smile Design, anyone can obtain the perfect smile.
Smile Design is a process which permits the dentist to change the appearance of the smile by altering the shape, shade and/or position of the teeth by using a material called composite. Composite is a material referred to by dentists as \'artificial enamel\' due to its similarity to dental enamel and it is the very latest material to be used in the creation of veneers.
The treatment consists of applying small quantities of composite over the facial surface of the tooth where it is then moulded by the dentist until the desired shape, shade and position is achieved. The process is repeated on those teeth which would best benefit from the treatment and until the overall aspect of the smile is significantly if not dramatically improved.
The duration of the procedure depends upon the number of teeth identified for treatment. As a guide, it will take the dentist approximately 4 hours to treat the upper set of teeth and a further 4 hours to treat the lower set. Usually in this time 8 veneers are applied to the top set and 6 are applied to the bottom.
After receiving treatment, patients are advised to care for and maintain their teeth in the same way they would their natural teeth. There is no special \'after care \' routine for patients to follow however the dentist will recommend to avoid smoking to ensure the colour of the smile is maintained.
Providing patients adopt good oral hygiene habits and arrange regular checkups, composite veneers can last up to 10 years.
The procedure is safe and pain free and requires no anaesthesia.
