Minimally invasive decompression for lumbar canal stenosis
Minimally invasive decompression for lumbar canal stenosis
This minimally invasive procedure is performed to relieve pressure on nerve roots compressed
by stenosis of the lumbar canal. Compression of the nerves causes painful symptoms which make walking difficult and uncomfortable.
The surgery involves high-speed drilling to remove bone or other material responsible for the compression of nerves in the spinal canal. In some cases, there may be a need to remove more of the material causing the compression in order to free the nerve. In such cases, screws or a motion sparing device may be used to support and stabilize the spine.
Performed under general anaesthesia.
Patients are discharged the following day or on day 2, post surgery.
